If you are a subscriber to FASTER Systems, LLC's Court Accounting and Death Tax Software and use EstateVal as your source for security valuations, the EstateVal/Faster interface can help eliminate unnecessary manual entry of data between the software packages.
Here's how it works:
In the Faster software, initialize your estate. Enter your securities in the proper schedule and when ready to send for pricing, simply click on Utilities then on Create EVP Import File for Account. Enter the path and filename. This will create a file with an extension of FAI.
To import the file into EstateVal, you'll need to configure its import file format. Go to Tools, Options, Import and set the following:
Type: Faster
Extension: FAI
Path: [location of the exported file from Faster]
Now that EstateVal is configured, go to File, Import, To EstateVal, choose the file and click Import. Securities will then be brought into EstateVal, after which, you can evaluate and export back.
To export the file back to Faster, you'll now need to configure EstateVal's export file format. Go to Tools, Options, Export and set the following:
Type: Faster
Path: [export file destination]
To export the file, go to File, Export, From EstateVal, [Report Type]. You will be prompted to type in an export file name. After typing the filename, click Export. If done correctly, EstateVal will indicate that the "The portfolio has been exported."
Now that the file has been exported from EstateVal, we are ready to import it back into Faster. Go to Utilities, Import EstateVal Valuation File and enter the path and filename of the exported file. Your securities will then be updated and values posted.
